James Ganoe fishes every chance he gets, but that hasn’t happened too much recently as he prepares to open Tri-State Baits on Friday, Sept. 1, at 72 W. Gay St., Waynesboro.

The brick-and-mortar store came about after his e-commerce business Lurebuild.com, which provides all the supplies needed to make a fishing lure from start to finish, outgrew his house.

The lures featured at Tri-State Baits are mainly custom-made by mom-and-pop businesses and artisans across the country, as far away as Washington state and as close as Waynesboro and Blue Ridge Summit.

Ganoe will sell live bait such as nitro worms, waxies, nightcrawlers, red worms, super worms and crickets and live fish including shiners, rosy reds, fathead minnows, bluegill and, in the spring, trout.

“Nowhere else around here offers all these types of baits,” Ganoe said.

At the one-stop shop that sells everything fishing-related except boats, the selection also includes name brand rods and reels, rod holders, nets, tools, hardware, lanterns, hats and sunglasses.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, when there will be cake and beverages.

Tri-State Baits will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Tri-State Baits website hasn’t been built yet and Ganoe also plans to launch the related businesses Juggernaut Fishing and SHOPTACKLEUSA.COM.

D.L. Martin Co. recently recognized Nikolay Romashkevich as employee of the month for July, according to a news release from the company.

Romashkevich lives in Hagerstown and has been with the company for 12 years. He is a machine operator in the CNC Department, according to the release. His supervisor, Zach Farley, is a production supervisor who has been with the D.L. Martin Co. for four years.

To eliminate the excessive cycle time when machining journals on the Mazak QT 350 Lathe, Romashkevich suggested machining the parts on the Mori Seiki SL-65 Lathe where better gripping in the jaws will eliminate a roughing pass by allowing more material to be removed in a pass.

D.L. Martin Co. also recognizes Scott Biddinger and Tony Miller for their suggestions implemented through the company’s Continual Improvement Program in July.

Laura Bishop, who works as a social work supervisor with the behavioral health services division, was selected as the Washington County Health Department employee of the quarter, according to a news release from the department.

Bishop began work at the health department in July 2012. She is a member of leadership and manages four programs within the behavioral health services division: pregnant/postpartum services, community based peer support, START (Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Team) at the Washington County Department of Social Services (DSS) and the state care coordination program.

Bishop provides clinical supervision to the peer recovery team in a way to help them feel supported and empowered to provide excellent care, according to the release. She revitalized the Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) community initiative and chairs its subcommittee, composed of numerous local providers and the health system. The group has created a system where “no wrong door” exists locally when a person is trying to access behavioral health services.
